Daniel Southwell sailed as Mate on HMS Sirius to Sydney Cove. Governor Phillip put him in charge of the Look Out Post at Outer South Head, near The Gap (now Vaucluse). Southwell left Sydney on the Dutch snow Waaksamsheyd in March 1791. He was made a Lieutenant in February 1794 and died of wounds in Portugal in 1797.
